Sony Prospects Blockchain for Intellectual Property Protection

On 15 October, Sony released a statement announced it is developing a new system for digital content rights management through the blockchain

Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. and Sony Global Education are jointly working on a blockchain-based project rooted on the conglomerate’s  earlier system intended for authenticating, sharing, and educational data rights management. This new system will exhibit a date and time stamp for when the data was created and will focus on rights-related works such as e-books, educational content, films, and music.

Sony’s Blockchain Endeavors

Sony is actively exploring the blockchain landscape. In April, the company, together with its subsidiary Sony Pictures, filed a patent titled Blockchain-Based Digital Rights Management. Last August, it again filed two patents for retaining and securing blockchain technology.
